  • Your optimal uses of 5e ability score point buy - D D Beyond
15 15 14 10 8 8 = 70; 15 15 15 8 8 8 = 69 (with maximised maximums and minimums) Which models, or variants thereof, do you use with which races race variants and classes subclasses? What are your optimal approaches to point buy? I'll also add a quick reference to the various base races by the extents of their ability score modification:
  • What is the point-buy system? and point arrays? - D D Beyond
I like the point buy system, it removes the randomness of roll and allow for customization I really dislike the Roll since it can scew unlucky players and make lucky ones so much better
  • What is your experience with opinion on Point Buy custom rules?
Point Buy 27 is the base in the PHB and the only RAW not homebrew interpretation I know of in 5e I use the same rules but hate the arbitrary 27 points so I make it 30 instead for my players, with a SPA of 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, and the 3 up 3 down rolling method for those that want random scores (It guarantees 75 points, which matches my SPA)
  • What are the pros and cons of point buy compared to standard . . . - Reddit
Point buy will give more customization and variation in your characters and it will allow certain multi attribute dependent classes to shine or be more viable Classes like Monk are very hard put if they start with standard array Certain builds will be noticeably stronger with point buy compared to standard array
  • Expanding Point Buy - Homebrew House Rules - D D Beyond
This point buy can get you the normal standard array (15 14 13 12 10 8) and averages at the same point as normal point buy (13 13 13 12 12 12), but allows for those super low scores and for purchasing high scores at an appropriate cost
  • Point Buy Above 15? : r dndnext - Reddit
As per 5e rules, you literally can't point buy a stat above 15 Chances are, if you're in a game that's doing the point-buy system, they're doing it to avoid anything too unbalancing or wonky So, you're looking for something that does homebrew
  • point buy - Search - D D Beyond
regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase
  • Point Buy - Rules Game Mechanics - D D Beyond
Point buy is limited primarily to keep the average human within the range of the average human Fifth edition and especially with bounded accuracy decided to limit point buy to a 15 but you don't have to Look up the point buy in third edition and use those numbers and you will have scores that can go to 18
