osmosis    音标拼音: [,ɔzm'osɪs]
n. 渗透作用,渗透性

渗透作用,渗透性

osmosis
n 1: (biology, chemistry) diffusion of molecules through a
semipermeable membrane from a place of higher concentration
to a place of lower concentration until the concentration
on both sides is equal

osmosis \os*mo"sis\ ([o^]z*m[=o]"s[i^]s), n. [NL., fr. Gr.
'wsmo`s, equiv. to 'w^sis impulse, fr. 'wqei^n to push.]
(Chemical Physics)
(a) The tendency in fluids to mix, or become equably
diffused, when in contact. It was first observed between
fluids of differing densities, and as taking place
through a membrane or an intervening porous structure. An
older term for the phenomenon was {Osmose}.

Note: The more rapid flow from the thinner to the thicker
fluid was then called {endosmosis} (formerly
{endosmose}), and the opposite, slower current,
{exosmosis} (formerly {exosmose}). Both are, however,
results of the same force. Osmosis may be regarded as a
form of molecular attraction, allied to that of
adhesion. See also {osmotic pressure}.
(b) The action produced by this tendency.

Well, then, simply put, osmosis is how water molecules move across a semipermeable membrane that separates two solutions It can be thought of as passive diffusion of water and it requires no energy
  • Osmosis - Wikipedia
Osmosis provides the primary means by which water is transported into and out of cells The turgor pressure of a cell is largely maintained by osmosis across the cell membrane between the cell interior and its relatively hypotonic environment
  • Osmosis - Definition, Process, and Importance in Biology
Osmosis is a fundamental concept in biology, chemistry, and medicine It refers to the movement of water molecules across a semipermeable membrane from a region of lower solute concentration to a region of higher solute concentration
  • Osmosis | Definition, Examples, Facts | Britannica
Osmosis, the spontaneous passage or diffusion of water or other solvents through a semipermeable membrane (one that blocks the passage of dissolved substances—i e , solutes)

  • What Is Osmosis and Why Is It Important? - Biology Insights
Osmosis describes the net movement of water molecules from an area of higher water concentration to an area of lower water concentration This movement occurs across a semipermeable membrane, which allows water to pass through but restricts larger solute molecules
  • How Osmosis Works: From Cells to Biological Systems
Osmosis is a fundamental biological process that governs the movement of water throughout nature, from single-celled organisms to complex biological systems It is defined as the passive movement of water molecules across a barrier, driven entirely by the differences in concentration on either side
  • Osmosis: what is osmosis? (video) | Khan Academy
Osmosis is a process where water molecules move from an area of low solute concentration to high solute concentration through a semipermeable membrane This movement can be influenced by factors like solute size and charge
