airfoil    音标拼音: ['ɛrf,ɔɪl]
n. 机翼;螺旋桨;机舵等的总称

机翼;螺旋桨;机舵等的总称

airfoil
n 1: a device that provides reactive force when in motion
relative to the surrounding air; can lift or control a
plane in flight [synonym: {airfoil}, {aerofoil}, {control
surface}, {surface}]

aeroplane \aer"*o*plane`\ aeroplane \a"["e]r*o*plane`\, n.
[a["e]ro- plane.] (A["e]ronautics)
1. A light rigid plane used in a["e]rial navigation to oppose
sudden upward or downward movement in the air, as in
gliding machines; specif., such a plane slightly inclined
and driven forward as a lifting device in some flying
machines. Also called {airfoil}.
[Webster 1913 Suppl.]

2. Hence: A heavier-than-air flying machine using such a
device to provide lift; an airplane. In a modern
aeroplane, the airfoils are called the {wings}, and most
of the lift is derived from these surfaces. In contrast to
helicopters, the wings are fixed to the passenger
compartment (airframe) and do not move relative to the
frame; thus such a machine is called a {fixed-wing
aircraft}. These machines are called monoplanes, biplanes,
triplanes, or quadruplanes, according to the number of
main supporting planes (wings) used in their construction.
After 1940 few planes with more than one airfoil were
constructed, and these are used by hobbyists or for
special purposes. Being heavier than air they depend for
their levitation on motion imparted by the thrust from
either propellers driven by an engine, or, in a jet plane,
by the reaction from a high-velocity stream of gases
expelled rearward from a jet engine. They start from the
ground by a run on small wheels or runners, and are guided
by a steering apparatus consisting of horizontal and
vertical movable planes, which usually form part of the
wings or tail. There are many varieties of form and
construction, which in some cases are known by the names
of their inventors. In U.S., an aeroplane is usually
called an {airplane} or {plane}.
[Webster 1913 Suppl. PJC]

airfoil \air"foil`\ n.
1. 1 a surface such as the wing of an airplane designed to
provide reactive force when in motion relative to the
surrounding air.

Syn: aerofoil

  • Airfoil - Wikipedia
Some important parameters to describe an airfoil's shape are its camber and its thickness For example, an airfoil of the NACA 4-digit series such as the NACA 2415 (to be read as 2 – 4 – 15) describes an airfoil with a camber of 0 02 chord located at 0 40 chord, with 0 15 chord of maximum thickness
  • Airfoil Tools
Search for airfoils available on the web or in online databases, filtering by thickness and camber with preview images of the airfoil sections Download the dat file data in various formats or use the dat file data in the tools
  • Airfoil Shapes – Introduction to Aerospace Flight Vehicles
Figure 3 illustrates the rapid evolution of airfoil shapes tailored for aircraft applications between 1908 and 1944, with the thin, highly cambered airfoil sections used on early airplanes soon being relegated to history
  • 2. 972 How An Airfoil Works - MIT
Lift and weight are two of the four forces acting on an airplane, the other two are drag and thrust (see Figure 1) The airplane generates lift using its wings The cross-sectional shape of the wing is called an airfoil A typical airfoil and its properties are shown in Figure 2, and are also described below
  • Chapter 5: Theory of Airfoil Lift Aerodynamics – Intermediate . . .
Airfoils are the cross-sections of a wing or lifting surface (i e , propellers and fins) These shapes drive the underlying performance of a lifting surface As indicated in the Figure below, the shape is described as the cross-section of the lifting surface

Included below are coordinates for approximately 1,650 airfoils (Version 2 0) The UIUC Airfoil Data Site gives some background on the database The airfoils are listed alphabetically by the airfoil filename (which is usually close to the airfoil name)
  • Airfoil Design 101: What Is an Airfoil? - National Aviation Academy
Airfoil Design 101: What Is an Airfoil? An airfoil (or aerofoil in British English) is any structure designed to manipulate the flow of a fluid to produce a reaction, which in an aircraft’s case, is aerodynamic lift The wings of fixed-wing aircraft feature airfoil-shaped cross-sections
  • Understanding Airfoils: Definition, Types, and Functions
The definition of an airfoil (or aerofoil in the UK) is a structure with curved surfaces, such as an airplane wing, fins, and horizontal stabilizer, designed to provide the best ratio of lift to drag during flight
  • Airfoil Design in Aircraft: Lift Generation and Aerodynamic Principles
An airfoil is a surface designed to obtain lift from the air through which it moves Thus, it can be stated that any part of the aircraft that converts air resistance into lift is an airfoil The profile of a conventional wing is an excellent example of an airfoil
